Фильм малоизвестен, и режиссер почти не упоминает его в своих интервью. Тем не менее это одна из лучших картин и Того, и Моничелли. В ней Тото покидает территорию бурлеска и фарса (на которой его талант перехвалить невозможно), чтобы проникнуть в чистой воды комедию нравов. В ней содержится типично итальянское и почти несравненное сочетание иронии и сочувствия к персонажам – без капли слащавости. Режиссер рисует превосходный портрет Тото, сохраняя все его неизбывные отличительные черты: несгибаемый дух, торжествующий над всеми невзгодами; галантность и уважительное отношение к женщинам (совершенно анахроничная черта); почти физиологическая неспособность разозлиться; флегматичность и покорность судьбе.
